My feeding schedule

So I've got Neph, Osiris, Illy, Grim, Anakin, Karana, Spear, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Keeping the feeding of all of them straight can be tricky, particularly since the bettas require different food on different days.  So here's what I do.

With the bettas, I feed them three times a day, two pellets per feeding, unless I replace one, two, or all feedings with something else.  Karana is easy enough, I feed her once a week.  Spear is pretty easy, just dump a handful of fruit flies in his tank every other day.

So here's my schedule:

Monday

  1. Feed Karana
  2. Feed bettas two pellets, replace their other two feedings with bloodworms
Tuesday
  1. Feed bettas 6 pellets
  2. Feed Spear
Wednesday
  1. Feed bettas 2 pellets, replace their other two feedings with peas
Thursday
  1. Feed bettas 6 pellets
  2. Feed Spear
Friday
  1. Feed bettas 4 pellets, replace one feeding with a bloodworm
Saturday
  1. Feed bettas 6 pellets
  2. Feed Spear
Sunday
  1. Fast bettas
  2. Feed Spear if needed

Betta fish are probably the most popular pet fish, eclipsing even the trusty goldfish.  Remarkably intelligent, with big personalities and a wonderful inquisitive nature, it's not hard to see why. The twins

Nephthys and Osiris are my twin halfmoons.  They live together in a 10 gallon divided tank, where they've lived ever since I bought them as babies about a year ago. Their colors are blue and red/orange, so I designed their tank to sort of complement that. They enjoy their home, but there was something that bothered me. Some way, some how, Neph was sneaking into Osiris' side.  Regularly. As in, at least once or twice a week. And I had no idea how she was doing it. Of course, as soon as I saw it, I would have a mini heart attack, immediately scoop her up, and put her back on her side.  And that would work for a couple days.  Until she'd go back over again. I mean, I guess it wasn't a huge  deal.  Osiris will flare and charge whenever he sees another male, but he was always gentle with her.  Of course there was the occasional nip or chase, that's to be expected.  It was his territory, not hers, and bettas are just a smidge territor

Slithering things

The husband and I decided to get the spawn a pet.  But dogs and cats are too mainstream.  And she finds them boring. So we decided to go for something else.  I know as much about ball pythons as I do about bettas, and ball pythons have the benefit of being somewhat more cuddly than fish. We broached the idea with the spawn.  She decided it would do. We went to the local pet store and picked one out.  She was ecstatic, and fell in love immediately.  She named him Slither. We got the tank all set up, and Slither was happy. She was a very attentive owner.  Things were going swimmingly. Until, about three weeks after we got him, he died. The spawn was devastated.  The husband and I decided to get her another one, but we would go with an actual breeder, with a captive-bred, healthy animal.
